Welcome

Welcome to our page where we will share our sailing experience with friends and family. Our next sailing adventure is scheduled to begin in September 2011.

Sailing is a passion that my husband had before I met him, he had been sailing for a number of years. Very soon after we met he invited me to join him and sail with Smitty. I showed up with a very small bag and impressed everyone with my modest luggage. This turned out to be at  Smitty's Hunter, Daisy Mae II  from Puerto Rico to Saint Thomas; yes my first sailing experience took twelve hours or so. I enjoyed it, I was just a passenger and enjoyed every minute of it.   Throughout these years Jerome and I sailed aboard Daisy Mae II from Fajardo to Vieques and Culebra with Captain Smitty and family.  We spent several New Year's Eves in Culebra.

Jerome and I got married and he said; "Before I retire I want to buy a sailboat; then we are going to sail, you should take some sailing lessons". Which I did take and wondered why it took me so long to take sailing lessons; we got the sailboat and sailed it back to Puerto Rico from the BVI. Becoming an active member of the crew was so much exciting, rewarding and fun! Camila joined us in that trip showing us that she was just a natural sailor. To make a long story short, the main sheet "lost its knot" while we faced some rough weather, she had good reflexes and grabbed it, allowing us to have control of this critical part of the boat.

So thus our adventure began. Basically we shift our time from golfing, supporting our kids who are still attending College; the rest of the family and sailing some. Sailing has provided us the opportunity to grow as human beings; to confront our fears and become even more close to one another. I have been terrified, elated, overjoyed, rejuvenated, reborn and grateful, sometimes all in one day while sailing the ocean aboard Apuej bien in the company of my beloved husband and friends.

Apuej bien is a slang expression in Spanish which means something like "all right", it is said in the context of "don't worry be happy", like "cool" or "aeight".
